In the Northern Hemisphere summer is coming to an end and transitioning into the beautiful season of autumn. Though most Canadians are feeling sad the pleasant weather is departing, others are thrilled about the magnificent colour change with trees and pumpkin spice lattes. Whichever category you fall under, this article can give you some great places to scope out for a weekend adventure.
Southampton
Southampton is located right on the coast of Lake Huron in Bruce County. This little town is an ideal weekend getaway because it offers a scenic drive, unique sights and a surprising cultural experience. There are two esteemed lighthouses to gaze making them a great model for those rad Instagram pictures every traveller is looking for. The town offers an immaculate white beach to relax at or take a stroll down the boardwalk to catch warm rays. During the summer and fall months, every Friday evening you can listen to the Sunset Piper playing some tunes under the massive Canadian flag. Trust me, you can’t miss the flag! There is also a lake in the middle of town called Fairy Lake and it’s a great location to spot some wildlife and go for a picnic. If you come at the right time of year in the summer, you may have the chance to watch the annual amateur cycling race, “The War on the Shore”. The event is held in the blocked off streets of the town and brings a fun crowd. For being such a tiny holiday spot, it packs an abundance of adventure, attractions and fun and all is waiting for you to discover!
Bethany
Bethany is a tiny town 25 minutes west of Peterborough. In this quaint town there is a Buddhist Temple called, Cham Shan Temple. The temple is still under construction and will be completed in another 20 years. Once completed, it is said to be the second largest Buddhist sanctuary in the world. As of right now you can take a glimpse of the driveway leading into the 1,700 acres of land and witness a ravishingly massive Buddha monument with a few dozen other cultural statues leading up the drive. This area is a perfect place for a Buddhist retreat because it offers a flawless setting of serenity to meditate. Just because the facility isn’t fully finished doesn’t mean it isn’t worthwhile to see. The drive to the grounds is a beautiful sight and is filled with copious amounts of unspoiled natural surroundings. While you are in the Bethany area scope out some of the surrounding lakes since there are plenty to see in the Kawartha region!
Orillia
Orillia is a marvelous road trip destination and it sits between Lake Simcoe and Lake Couchiching. The town is known for great boating and fishing, which attracts tourists and cottagers. When you’re in the area be sure to check out the famous Mariposa Market. This shop will take you back in time when food had “homemade” taste before all this GMO garbage. Try mouthwatering items from the bakery and café or sample the amazing homemade fudge. Just writing and thinking about these splendorous edibles makes me feel as if I gained a pound or two. The market also has a fantastic gift shop. If you’re feeling lucky, try your luck at the renowned, Casino Rama, where a number of famous musical acts come to perform.
Blue Mountains
The Blue Mountains are located a few minutes outside of Collingwood. This area is considered to be one of the ultimate destinations to visit in Ontario because of the variety of activities. If you are a thrill seeking, adrenaline junkie, you should consider

visiting! The Blue Mountain resort village itself is a cool, laidback area with plenty of luxurious accommodations, trendy shops and delicious restaurants. In the core of the village is a sizable stage where there is live music showcasing well-known acts or locals. In the summer and autumn months, the resort offers zip lining, golfing, mountain biking, rock climbing and water sports. Wine is another hot ticket item in the area and
visitors can go on a number of wine tasting tours. In winter, the area is well known for the ski slopes and other snow adventure type activities. Due to the reputation of having a good party scene, there is always a wedding, bachelor or celebration to crash at some point in your visit. While you’re stopping by don’t forget the importance of personal clarity and Zen and consider stepping into one of the nearby spas to let all your worries run away. Oh, and at some golf courses, shoes are optional!
